Dear Community,
Thank you for the opportunity to share the good news
of Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163 with you, and to let
you know why you have much to be proud of in your community schools.
Your schools have experienced increased achievement
levels and a more positive financial situation in the last few years. I
am proud to say that despite a tight budget, students' scores have made
significant increases. Indeed, Mohawk Intermediate Center was named a
2005 Illinois Spotlight School on the Illinois Honor Roll Award from the
Illinois State Board of Education and all of our schools exceeded the
state's 2006 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) target. Additionally, all of
the schools' sub-groups met or exceeded AYP. These accomplishments are
attributed to our outstanding staff, our parents, and our students.
At the same time, our Board of Education has been
most prudent in its fiscal decisions. While expenditures were cut,
student programming was not affected, and the bottom line improved. For
the past two years our revenues exceeded our expenditures. Projections indicate
that our 2006-07 budget also will be in the black.
Our vision recognizes that all students are capable
of meeting high expectations, and we recognize that each student has
individual needs. The quality of the programs and services we provide
must be state of the art to ensure that our students reach their
potential. To that end, we develop our curriculum with recommendations
from the National Reading Panel, the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics, and a variety of nationally recognized educational groups.
It is important that we, as adults, plant the seeds
to nurture the academic and social growth of children in our community.
We invite community residents to become invested in our schools by
volunteering their time in the schools or visiting the schools. Together,
we will make a difference.
If you have further questions, please do not
hesitate to call me, 668-9427.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joyce Carmine
Superintendent of Schools
