History has been made as the Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts 8th Grade Boys' Basketball Team captured the IESA Class 8-4A State Championship. The championship game took place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Taylorville High School in Taylorville, Illinois.

The team showcased exceptional performances throughout the State tournament, beginning with a decisive 51-40 victory over Champaign Edison in the first round, followed by a commanding 47-33 win against Minooka in the semifinals. In the championship game, they delivered an outstanding performance to secure the state title with a final score of 46 to 42. This marks the second State title for the Patriots, who previously won in 2014. The Patriots were led by Keiwon Gulley with 23 points and Larry Ellis with 12 points.

This championship is a testament to the dedication and hard work of their players, many of whom were part of last year's 7th-grade team that secured a 4th place finish in the state tournament. Their growth and experience have been pivotal in this year's success.

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Boys' Basketball Team on this remarkable achievement. Their perseverance and teamwork have made the Park Forest-Chicago Heights community proud. The team was guided by Head Coach Drake Fryer and Assistant Coaches Kevin Lawlor and Charles Carrell. Coach Fryer praised the team's efforts, stating, "This group of young men has worked incredibly hard all season, and their dedication has truly paid off. Winning the state championship is a testament to their resilience and teamwork."
