Our Fall Festival is tomorrow for all primary schools and Barack Obama School! We invite students to wear costumes if you wish. It will be a great day with lots of fun!

OLS will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair November 15-21. Students will have an opportunity to preview and shop for books during the school day. In addition, the Book Fair will be open during Family Reading Night on November 17th from 6:30-7:30 PM and during Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences on November 20th and 21st.

Thank you to the families who came out to our Family Math Night event! Students engaged in hands-on math activities as they "fell into Math" for the fall season.



Our 5th-grade students enjoyed a change in indoor recess this week by engaging in a "seated ball relay" game.


Tonight is Light's On Afterschool in X-STEAM. The event is to call attention to the importance of afterschool programs for America's children, families, and communities. We celebrated with a "Taste of Measurement" where children made recipes using their math skills!

Thank you to the families who came out to OLS's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration night! We had a wonderful time learning about and breaking open pinatas, creating a Guatemalan craft, enjoying delicious Mexican pastries and hot chocolate, playing Spanish BINGO, and providing each child with a piece of literature in Spanish for their home library. If you could not attend our event, we invite you to stop by OLS and view our beautiful atrium that has been transformed via Hispanic culture. If you stop by to view our atrium, stop in the main office and your child will receive a book in Spanish for his/her home library.





Tuesday, October 17th, is an Early Dismissal Day. Students will be served lunch and dismissed at 12:30PM. All bus riders will depart at 12:30pm. Pre-Kindergarteners with be dismissed at 10:45am. There will be no afternoon Pre-Kindergarten classes or X-STEAM.


Dia De Los Muertos is a traditional Hispanic celebration that takes place on November 1 and 2. It is a day dedicated to honoring and celebrating our loved ones who have passed away. OLS will be honoring this tradition throughout the fall holiday season. Students are invited to bring in a photo of their loved ones. Please view the flyer for additional information.

Ms. Sullivan and Mr. Hawkins are working with their students in Horticulture to get our Hydroponic Towers in full bloom. The pictures represent our five towers throughout the building and the progression of growth that students are able to observe.


Ms. Naylor's 4th-grade students put on their lab coats and became scientists this week as they made observations and recorded data for a science experiment.


Families: There is NO school for students on Thursday, September 28, 2023, due to a Staff Institute Day. All students can work on their i-Ready pathways, read, and practice math fact fluency.
